Hannah Taplin - Art Prize Assignment

As someone who grew up in the country, surrounded by dirt roads and the sounds of nature, I have never been comfortable in the presence of tall buildings and car horns. The noise and the inability to the stars do not call to me as much as the howls of the coyotes and the deer frolicking in the corn fields.

So, I started wandering around Grand Rapids, not feeling the excitement of Art Prize. I walked from Medical Mile to the old brick buildings of downtown. While other people admired the art, I admired what made Grand Rapids flow every day, from architecture of old bridges to road signs.
