 Here is this photo edited in two different ways.

Kendall Assignment - Steven Stroud

For this image, it appears that the shadow falls on the model on only one side. I like to imagine that the skull makeup only is on the left side of his face as well. The way one side is well lit and white as opposed to the shadow, the makeup, and the glove on the right hand creates a symbolic contrast. In a way, it reminds me of the Batman villain Two Face. On a more serious note, it seems to represent that anybody, even men in snazzy dress clothes, can have a second side, a dark side, or, rather, a second face.

Dhiraj Adhikari-Art Gallery Critique

This picture really caught my eyes. It was quite different from all the others. Its seemed to have a very deep meaning hidden inside this picture. When I look at this picture its seems he has a deep person hiding behind that mask and he is just different from everyone. Although he is happy from outside he has lots of emotions hidden inside him. I think this is just nice because there are people who pretend to be a kind of personal from the outside but they are not really that kind a person from outside. I really like the picture because it is simple and in fact explains a lot of things.

Michaila Cohen- Art Gallery Critique

Although a small photo, it was one that grabbed my attention and pulled me in. This photo is of a young woman in what seems to be a simple alley between houses. Usually this is something that we see every day and would just pass by because it has no interest to us,  but this photo makes it into something beautiful. By looking at this picture, it makes you want to be the woman in the picture and be in the place that she is. Strengths of this photo is that the photographer used rule of thirds to make the woman stand out from her surroundings causing her to be the focus. They also use leading lines from the shingles on the houses so that when you follow them your eyes fall on the woman in the picture. One weakness of this photo is that because it is so small, some of the details aren't as crisp and they do not stand out as much as they should. Another thing is that the color of the photo does not make it very interesting to me. I would much rather see the beautiful colors of the woman and her surroundings to make the picture stand out more.

Sophie Meadowcroft - Kendall Art Gallery Critique

This photograph immediately caught my eye. The subject, who appears to be a young adult woman, takes a sparkler and waves it around as the shutter speed was set to be delayed in order to capture the entire image. The light from the sparkler is captured and streamed into one fluid movement; the same effect would be much more difficult to portray had the shutter speed setting been faster. By using it in this setting, the light is captured and portrayed in a unique way. The strengths of the photo include how the light was captured in order to show light in a more fluid movement and how it is shown in one streak. The photo also captures the movement even in the how the sparkler burns; the photo captures the showery light that the sparklers create - like the firework effect of it. However, a weakness of the photo could be how the subject is right in the center and how there is a concentration of light in just the center. There could have been more interest in the photo had the placement of the subject been shifted off onto one side – this would then follow the rule of thirds. The light could have also been portrayed in a different shape to create even more movement within the photo. The meaning of the photo is to show carefree and enjoyable times in life. Overall, the photo evokes a sense of fun, summer memories of amusement and late night adventures in a distinctive way.

Jessica Bonkowski - In Class Assignment #5: Art Critique

This picture truly caught my eye. The first thing I noticed was the light coming through the corner and being reflected on the store window. The second thing I noticed was the American flags. The light from the sun is in the corner following the rule of thirds. Strengths of this photograph would be how the light was captured. The amount of light gives the photo a certain mood of peace and tranquility. My guess is that the photographer used the flag in the picture to portray peace in America. Weaknesses would be the sign behind the light and the angle of the photo. It would have been cool to have both flags sort of predominant in the photograph. Overall, I really enjoyed this photo because it encompasses a soft, peaceful feeling, almost the carefree tone of America. 

Hannah Taplin - Art Gallery Critique

This photo stuck out to me because of the power of the shadow. There are whispers of the unknown hidden in the bedroom, secrets ducking behind of what once was. The piece is beautiful in the pain of which it portrays. I love the pure and raw emotion in the woman's face, her lover of the night lying in the dirty sheets. The focus is on the woman and her regret or guilt. There is a story here. The only thing I find with is the noise in the background, such as the door and the air vent. Overall, there is beauty in the story overlaying the photo and I would read the book in a series of photos.
