Song Assignment

I chose to do the song "I'm Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver. As an MK I travel all the time all over the world. Traveling is an important part of my lifestyle. I put some quotes next to each photograph so that you can really feel the emotion that I was trying to create with my photographs. I really just wanted to create the sense of travel.

In that explanation, Kari talks about how the song was inspired by a dream she had of walking into an ancient church where it was raining, which is why I chose to include photos of a structurally impressive church.

When she was just a girl (the shadow of the girl in the tree represents the carefree innocence to all that is wrong with the world, though the photo was taken from the perspective of someone who sees the darkness, while the child is in the light)             
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach (the feather represents flight and is placed just outside of a cage,showing that the bird has gone and all that is left is a feather. The rocks contrast the softness of the feather, showing that the bird was escaping a harder existence)
So she ran away in her sleep

To me, this song is more than just people worshipping God.  It's about the way that everything around us brings Him glory just by existing the way He made it to.  My goal was to capture that through the connection between these lyrics and photos.  This time of year is the emergence of springtime life, and I imagine each plant, by being itself, singing its own unique melody, coming together with others to bring a song of praise to God.
