Elizabeth Gaus Extra Credit: Creative Editing

For my creative editing assignment, I wanted to use the power of editing to showcase the details of the Amway Grand Plaza hotel that you might not otherwise notice. First I bumped the contrast up, so that the details of the iron work and art on the lamps popped more, then I used a black and white action and adjusted the settings to add the most dimension and detail possible.

I created a more dramatic effect and concentration on the baby shoes through photoshop. I added vignette and I burned the edges of the photo and illuminated the hands and shoes. I also put it into black and white and increased the contrast.

I took a more blurry photo to create more of a mysterious look and edited it in a way to make it appear old and almost horror-like. I put a more orange tint to the shadows and added a purple highlight throughout the photo. I created more contrast within the photo as well to emphasize the more "horror-like" appearance.

Redmond Thornhill-Gallery Assignment-Photo 3

                                                                     Aperture:1/30
                                                                      F-Stop:F10
                                                                       ISO:1600
The second photo inspired me to take this photo because it did'nt look like the artist tried very hard to paint the second photo just like in this photo. The artists use of black and white in this photo is not very depressing because he uses it to focus on the mountain and the sand bar. The artists painting of one mountain does add dramatic effect to it because of it being lonely and having isolation. Everything else has eroded away like the other two mountains and the rest of the sand or moved away like the clouds and the water. These three pictures tell a story about how nature erodes away over time and also shows how the strongest will and always does prevail. This reminds me also of how God is the one just like this mountain is the one that survived and shows how god gives everlasting life throughout nature.

The first photo inspired me to take this photo because of the artists use of black and white. This photo also reminds me of the cycle of nature and how things decompose and erode away over the years. The reason I say this is because the artists does not show much of the sand bar by doing smaller brushes and only shows two instead of three mountains as if to say the other eroded away. The sky as well has passed by because you don't see a big cloud opening up as if its going to rain. The artist uses black and white in a good way because he does not use to less of it or to much of it. These two photos together are like the cycle of nature and shows how nature is art.

I was attracted to this picture because it had background and middleground. When you look at this picture at first you don't see an ocean a sand bar the clouds and 3 mountains you see mountains clouds a sand bar and a bunch of white space. It was appealing to my eye to see the clouds the mountains the sand bar and the ocean because I did not see how the artist used background foreground and middleground at first. I also noticed a big hole in the sky which to me seemed like the heavens opening up for someone but could have been the clouds separating for rain to come down. I liked this picture because the artist made black and white colors seem less depressing and more interesting by painting a landscape. The three mountains in the background reminded me of the three in one or god because of the holy trinity and God is the father, son and the holy spirit.
